The JCB Prize for Literature : 2023 Entries

Please note the following:

  • Entries can only be made from a desktop or laptop, not from a mobile device.
  • All information must be entered in English.

Entering the Prize

Welcome to the 2023 JCB Prize for Literature. Your entries will be made through this form. Please note that all forms must be completed in English, and that entries may not be made from mobile devices.

Each publishing house may enter up to four novels per imprint. Please read the 2023 Rules for Entry carefully to make sure each of your entries is eligible. Some of the criteria you should consider:

The work:

The work must be a substantial and unified work of fiction. Collections of poetry, plays or short stories are not eligible.

Author:

It must have been written by a living Indian writer (you will be asked to provide proof of citizenship).

Date of publication:

It must have been published in India between 1st August 2022 and 31st July 2023.

Language:

It must be published in English; translations into English from other languages are encouraged (see below for more details).

Important : when planning your four entries, you should remember that no imprint may enter more than two novels originally written in English, and two novels translated into English from another language. You may not, for example, enter four novels originally written in English. This form allows you to enter one title at a time. Refill the form for your next entry

Language:

It must be published in English; translations into English from other languages are encouraged (see below for more details).

  • Submit hi-res images of book cover(s)
  • Submit proof(s) of author citizenship
  • Send seven hard copies of the work and of the entry form to Grant Thornton India
    (advance copies are accepted if the work is not yet published)

Stage: Call-in-entries (For Entries called in by the Literary Director)

Deadline: 31st May

To Do:

Submit online entry form

  • Submit hi-res images of book cover(s)
  • Submit proof(s) of author citizenship
  • Send seven hard copies of the work and of the entry form to Grant Thornton India
    (advance copies are accepted if the work is not yet published)

Stage: Final Information (For those published subsequent to entering for the Prize)

Deadline: 1st August 2023
